Local Fashion Strikes Again!
Hey everyone! We are back and ready to serve all the latest designer scoop in sweet Trini! Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending Racked V, and I was yet again overwhelmed by just how much talent there is in our beautiful twin isle republic!
Here's just a few designers that stood out to me...
Cocoa Vintage - From the first time I laid eyes on this brand on Instagram, I was in love. Crystal Antoine knows Jewelry! Every piece is gorgeous and has elements that are so quintessentially Caribbean. I picked up a pair of earrings and I cannot wait to wear them. Find her and her amazing pieces at the shop at Normandie.
Chandra Maharaj- A swimwear and Monday wear veteran, Chandra's pieces are unique and the craftsmanship is excellent. A few pieces of her Monday wear collection were on display and the combination of the suits and the jewelry was absolutely divine. What I especially liked about her collection this year, is the versatility of the pieces. In this economic climate, it's nice if you can reuse your Monday wear for a nice trip to the beach. Check out her website.
Afrofunkk- This entire collection is beautiful. From the slim fitting trousers to the cute crop tops. The Ethnic prints combined with modern tailoring are a perfect pair. A piece from thiscollection is a must have for any Caribbean woman.
Shop Shari- Why wear plain boring sandals when you can wear funky ones?! Shop Shari has everything from Sandals to Jewelry and even clothes. Her pieces are bright, youthful and we fell in love particularly with a neon pink. Scuba dress. Her use of colour and print is unparalleled.
Dappered by Mark Eastman- My lovely gentlemen, we didn't forget you. Mark Eastman caters to the Caribbean man with a wide variety of locally made bow ties. I was particularly intrigued by the denim bow ties that I think can be a really interesting look for any fashion forward male.
ColourRiot Jewelry- If you love bright colours and precious gems, you'll love this designer. Many of her pieces included Amethyst, a favourite of mine. Her pieces incorporated colour blocking and a lot of interesting shapes and designs.
I would say Racked V was definitely a success, and although I didn't mention every participant, there was something I loved at every stall. I would have to say that I was particularly impressed with the Jewelry. We have such talent and the way we use precious gems and metals to make these stand out pieces, absolutely blows my mind!
We are truly blessed in Trinidad and Tobago! Designers, keep it up!
